Singapore makes either commercial films that appeal to the mainstream
audience or art films that are indulgent and unpolished. granted, A
Yellow Bird is not for the general public (yet), but it could be the
watershed event that gives 'arthouse' a good name here. we may not yet
have a commercial work that comes close to Hollywood and Hong Kong, but
we now have a product that in my reckoning can rival anything on the
festival circuit. K Rajagopal is a hidden gem.
