is faith another word for arrogance? aren't morals more important than
any God? Silence is a profound and contemplative film. like faith, it
frustrates you. like faith, you experience it but get no answers from
Scorsese. the film has a strong third act but i think the genius is in
one constant subplot. and even in depicting Japan's persecution it never
characterises it as good (Christianity) versus evil nor villifies the
Japanese. and i would have never guessed the meaning of the film's
powerful title. #OscarsSoWhiteBlack that Issey Ogata, the best thing in Silence, wasn't nominated.
