it's easy to see why La La Land is an awards-season darling - it's about
Hollywood, it's a musical, it has two likeable leads, it's Damien
Chazelle, and it has one of those popular open-ended alternate-reality
life-has-no-happy-endings endings. you already know what's great about
it so here's what i think isn't: it can't seem to decide whether it's a
musical or not; Gosling, as compared to Stone; the romance builds up a
little too quick; Sebastian's plotline breaks apart and suddenly returns
as knight in shining armour; some nice shots but not Oscar-worthy
cinematography. La La Land is an intriguing film, but it is not a GOAT
film.
